In this case study, I will focus on the new version of Bytepad, which was re-designed with the goal of significantly improving accessibility and user experience, and how we were able to enhance its conversion.

A little bit about bytepad

Bytepad was initially launched with an objective to aid our college students to have convenient access to previous year question papers and solutions. From the very beginning, we've been focusing on getting people to download the documents. That's the core feature of the application.

Why we decided to redesign the app?

Bytepad was last updated a couple years ago. And as we know everything needs to upgrade with the needs of the users. That's why we decided to update the application. I read somewhere -

Pick an app/website which you think you would be an apt user for. That way, you can think in terms of the user and make good design decisions.

We, as college students, used the application as well. And when we tried to download the documents, we ran into a slew of issues. The documents were not updated on a regular basis, and the search was not optimised. I could only find a document for a subject if I typed the subject name correctly. There is no suggestion box, nothing. As a result, we made the decision to redesign the application.

Take the opportunity to not just redesign the UI or UX of the app, but also find ways of improving the product as a whole. After all, we are called Product Designers.

This is also something said by one of the designers I look upto.

Not only did we give the app a fresh new look, but I also added a ton of new features, made improvements to notifications and gave high focus to copywriting. We will look at all these one by one.
